Opening Songs

How Great Thou Art
Carl Boberg CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

CH

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Verse 2

And when I think, that God His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

CH

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Verse 3

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow with humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

CH

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Be Thou My Vision

Dallan Forgaill and Van Morrison CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Verse 2

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 4

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Verse 5

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Creed

Liturgy for Election Day

Almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth, You have given our nation an abundance of good things.

We thank you that we can meet freely and openly today to seek your face regarding the upcoming election.

Father...

Forgive us for being quick to speak and slow to listen.

Forgive us for making you into the image of our own political party.

Forgive us for using fear and partisanship as an excuse to fail to love all of your children rather than only those who think, speak, and vote like us.

Thank you, Father, that you do not treat us as we are so often guilty of treating our neighbor, vilifying and dehumanizing them in an effort to pacify our conscience.

ABBA FATHER, You have placed us here in this unique time and place. You have placed us, each a unique and priceless creation of yours, here together. The events of our days cause us to fear each other, to fracture from one another, and to fret that the challenges of our day are somehow unique or unknown to you.

Give us HOPE, O LORD.

Hope, because these days of fear and doubt and worry are not unknown to you; because our hope is not in the men and women you will set in places of power on Tuesday; because you raise them up and bring them down. Give us hope because our freedom, our identity, our very life is secured by Jesus.

Give us LOVE, O LORD,

Love to love as Jesus loved. To love the powerful, as Jesus loved Zacchaeus and Nicodemus. To love the weak, as Jesus loved the children. To love the marginalized and the foreigners, as Jesus loved the Samaritan woman at the well. Even to love those who hate us, as Jesus loved those who crucified him.

Help us recall our own sin and prejudice that we carry into the polling places and open our hearts to love the leaders you will place over us, regardless of whether we voted for them or not.

Give us WISDOM, O LORD.

Wisdom as we strive to separate in our words and deeds truth from lies, love from hate, beauty from rubbish.

Give us COURAGE, O LORD,

Courage to carry out bold acts of love and sacrifice, speaking truth into the darkness wherever we find it, courageous in knowing that the power to change our society lies in us through the power of your Spirit and not in the fickle whims of politicians.

Help us to rise again tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow with an urgency to love our neighbor, to feed the hungry, to give shelter to the traveler, to comfort the sick, and to set the captive free.

Finally, Father, we ask you to hear the prayers of all those who call boldly on your name this election. But especially, bend your ear to hear those who tremble in silence. Hear the cries that their hearts cannot utter.

See in us, Holy Father, what you love in the Son as we offer thanks that our citizenship in Heaven will never rest upon our political allegiances but on the sacrifice of the Cross.

We give you this election. Amen.

Closing Song

My Jesus I Love Thee
William R. Featherston CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee, all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, My Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 2

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 3

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say, when the death-dew lies cold on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 4

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.
