How Marvelous
Charles Gabriel CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner, condemned, unclean

How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior's love for me!

Verse 2

He took my sins and my sorrows
He made them His very own
He bore the burden to Calvary
And suffered and died alone

Verse 3

When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see
'Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me

Be Thou My Vision

Dallan Forgaill and Van Morrison CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Verse 2

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 4

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Verse 5

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Scripture Passage

Jeremiah 29:10–19

Sermon

"You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end--which you can never afford to lose--with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be." (Admiral Stockdale)

Main idea: Embrace hope because God is good.

1. Reject optimism and pessimism

"What we have at the moment isn't as the old liturgies used to say, 'the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the dead,' but a vague and fuzzy optimism that somehow things may work out in the end." (N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope)

2. Embrace hope.

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." (Desmond Tutu)

Closing Song

My Jesus I Love Thee
William R. Featherston CCLI 20455650

Verse 1

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee, all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, My Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 2

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 3

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say, when the death-dew lies cold on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.

Verse 4

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ’tis now.
