Christ is Risen

V1

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
But fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely you’ve bled for us

Ch

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

V2

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bowed to none but heaven’s will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer’s crown
No burden great can hold you down
In strength you reign
Forever let your church proclaim

Bridge

O death, where is your sting
O hell, where is your victory
O church, come stand in the light
The glory of God has defeated the night

Our God is not dead
He’s alive, he’s alive

O Praise the Name

V1

I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see his wounds, his hands, his feet
My Savior on that cursed tree

V2

His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid him down in Joseph’s tomb
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone

Ch

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise his name forevermore
For endless days we will sing your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

V3

Then on the third, at break of dawn
The Son of heaven rose again
O trampled death, where is your sting?
The angels roar for Christ the King

V4

He shall return in robes of white
The blazing sun shall pierce the night
And I will rise among the saints
My gaze transfixed on Jesus’ face

Scripture Reading from the kids:

Matthew 28

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

V1

Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the king
He the theme of heaven’s praises
Robbed in frail humanity
In our longing, in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ, who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

V2

Come behold the wondrous mystery
He the perfect Son of Man
In his living, in his suffering,
Never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law; in him we stand

V3

Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption
See the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured, grace untold

V4

Come behold the wondrous mystery
Slain by death, the God of life
But no grave could ever restrain him
Praise the Lord! He is Alive!
What a foretaste of deliverance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power, resurrected
As we will be when he comes

A Liturgy for First Responders - From Every Moment Holy

O God who shrank not from danger
but willingly entered the chaos of our world,
walk with me now
as I enter the hard moments of others.

As I assess and act,
let my heart be always guided by mercy,
my mind by right judgment,
and my hands by your wisdom,
that by all means my presence in
another person’s moment of pain or confusion
might mark the beginning
of your movement to redeem
the disruption of their lives.

And in those situations
where my strength or skill
is not enough to aid or save,
when loss or harm proves irreparable,
let me neither rage against you
nor against my own limits, O Lord,
but let me instead find humility
to trust your sovereignty,
and to comfort others however I can.

I would be a bearer of your peace,
but let me also learn to rest my own heart in it,
that at the end of each shift
I might return home not shaken and distracted,
but able to be fully present
for those who need me
not just in the discord of one dire moment, but daily
through the slow and necessary lifelong work
of deep fellowship and nurturing and love.

Amen.

An Easter Responsive Reading (Luke 24:1-7 and 1 Corinthians 15:54b-55)

Leader: But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. (Luke 24:1-3) He is Risen!

Congregation: He is risen indeed!

Leader: 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. (Luke 24:4-6)

Congregation: He has risen indeed!

Leader: Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” He is Risen!

Congregation: He is risen indeed! Leader: Death has been swallowed up in victory.

Men: Where, O death is your victory?

Women: Where, O death is your sting?

Leader: He is Risen!

Congregation: He is risen indeed!

Rejoice

V1

Come and stand before your maker
Full of wonder, full of fear
Come behold His power and glory
Yet with confidence draw near

For the one who holds the heavens
And commands the stars above
Is the God who bends to bless us
With an unrelenting love

Ch

Rejoice, come and lift your hands and
Raise your voice, He is worthy of our praise
Rejoice, sing of mercies of your King
And with trembling, rejoice

V2

We are children of the promise
The beloved of the Lord
Won with everlasting kindness
Bought with sacrificial blood

Bringing reconciliation
To a world that longs to know
The affections of a Father
Who will never let them go

V3

All our sickness, all our sorrows
Jesus carried up the hill
He has walked this path before us
He is walking with us still

Turning tragedy to triumph
Turning agony to praise
There is blessing in the battle
So take heart and stand amazed

Ch 2

Rejoice, when you cry to Him He hears
Your voice, He will wipe away your tears
Rejoice, in the midst of suffering
He will help you sing

My One Comfort

V1

My one comfort both in life and death
Is that I am not my own
I was bought with blood and I confess
I belong to you alone

Ch

By the Father’s good decree
Jesus you’ve delivered me
By your spirit set me free to follow you

Bridge

Jesus you have taken hold of me
And in your grip of grace I’m finally free
